It is ideal for a two-phase bipolar stepper motor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nkxmotor.si\/en\/product-category\/koracni-motorji\/nema17\/\">Nema 17<\/a> with 4, 6 or 8 wires. It can handle a voltage range of 8 \u2013 35 V (more than 24 V is not recommended) and a maximum current of 2 A (with additional cooling). During operation, the A4988 automatically selects the appropriate form of current decay, slow or mixed current decay. Under the right conditions, these voltage spikes can exceed the A4988&#039;s 35V maximum and permanently damage the board, even if the motor&#039;s supply voltage is only 12V. One way to protect the driver from such voltage spikes is a large (at least 47 \u00b5F, 100 \u00b5F recommended) an electrolytic capacitor between the motor terminal (VMOT) and ground somewhere near the board.<\/p>\n<p>The A4988 driver has three inputs to select the microstep resolution,\u00a0<span class=\"pinout pinout-dark-blue\">MS1, MS2 and MS3<\/span> .
